Corpoguajira begins construction of 100 eco-efficient stoves in Hatonuevo

The project will benefit more than 500 inhabitants of the El Cerro indigenous reservations, Lomamato and The Well.

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira publicized the works that will allow the construction of 100 eco-efficient stoves that will benefit more than 500 inhabitants of the El Cerro indigenous reservations, Lomamato and The Well, in the municipality of Hatonouevo.

The works, financed by Corpoguajira, in addition to contributing to improve the quality of life of these families, will represent great benefits to the environment due to the decrease in firewood consumption.

During the event socialization, held in the Guamachito Indigenous Reserve, Samuel Lanao Robles, General Manager Corpoguajira, explained to the beneficiaries that these stoves require less use of firewood and savings in the time used for food preparation, “all this allows the absence of smoke inside the kitchens, better hygiene and health conditions and, above all, the decrease in air pollution, by reducing emissions of particulate matter and gases that directly affect global warming”.

In addition, the environmental entity specified that the stoves have a chimney, four hotplates, an oven, a container for heating water, a ventilation channel for wood burning and an airtight compartment for ash storage.

Yosmira Ortiz, beneficiary of the project, indicated that “we were waiting for these jobs, we had asked for it because my mom suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, due to the use of firewood. It is a joy to know that this is going to start. We are grateful to God and Corpoguajira”.

Finally, The Corporation informed that each beneficiary will receive training for the proper use and proper management of the stoves., which will contribute to the sustainability of this project
