Heeding the call of the UN, who proclaimed the 3 March World Wildlife Day, Corpoguajira developed different activities, in order to foster a culture of wildlife preservation. The objective was to raise awareness in the community and especially to the new generations, of the importance of these species within humanity.

Our activities began on 1 March, carrying out a day of reception of wild species outside our main headquarters in Corpoguajira(Riohacha), in which we managed to collect various species. During this activity, We have the support of the Environmental Police and our team of ecosystem specialists, biodiversity and environmental education. The activity took place from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Animals voluntarily surrendered by the community, were received and are under the care of veterinary doctors of the entity, to later be scheduled for release.

The 2 March, we carry out liberation of 120 Needle Alligators(Crocodylus acutus) in El Limoncito and the Bello Horizonte wetland(Dibulla). The specimens reported average weight of 4 kg, with approximate measurement of 85 cm.

During the release process, The alligators were subjected to laboratory tests, blood count, hemoparasites and coprology, scale marking, taking the measurement and weight of each individual, disinfection by immersion with iodine 15%, packaging in baskets and finally, their release into their natural habitat.

Finally, today in the company of the children of the Kamusuchiwü institutions of Carrizal (high Guajira) and Puerto Chentico de Camarones(Riohacha), we released birds from dry forest and 62 sea turtles of the Caretta-caretta species. With the presence of these new generations, It seeks to generate in minors, a culture of preserving these species that are on the verge of extinction. It is worth noting that carrizal(high guajira), It is one of the areas where this species most lives and where the highest rate of hunting and consumption is reported..

The batch of turtles lasted 10 months since birth, under the care of the Palomino Peasant NGO, supported by Petrobras and the Jorge Tadeo University. Caretta's specimens, They reported measures of 14, 54cm per 12,03 wide and an average weight of 495.3g.
