The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, awarded to the Municipality of Maicao, the environmental license for the construction and operation project of the regional sanitary landfill in northern La Guajira, which is located at 400 meters from the Maicao road – Riohacha (kilometer 61).
This decision was made by Corpoguajira, after analyzing in detail the environmental impact study, document describing the technical generalities of the project and the different programs to be implemented: waterproofing and drainage systems; leachate and gas management; vector control, inter alia.
For the execution of the project, a matrix of agreements was signed, which includes environmental components, cultural, social and economic. Similarly, the socialization of the work with the community was carried out, through prior consultations, with Wayúu indigenous settlements, located in the area of direct influence.
The license, which was awarded for the life of the project, was made official through the Resolution 1646 of 2012. The administrative act establishes that the Municipality of Maicao, must comply with each of the environmental management measures and the contingency plan presented. Likewise, it is necessary that two annual reports are presented to the Corporation that demonstrate compliance with the agreed commitments..
Taking into account that the area to intervene from 50 hectares, Corpoguajira imposed a forest compensation measure on the Municipality of Maicao, which will have to be established in sectors of direct influence of the project, previous approval of the environmental authority.
Corpoguajira will carry out permanent monitoring of the construction and operation project of the regional sanitary landfill in the north of the department, in case of checking non-compliance with any of the terms, agreed conditions or obligations, may suspend or revoke the license granted.
