The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, (Corpoguajira) It was one of the entities participating in the signing of the Pact for Legal Timber in Colombia, which aims to generate initiatives to reduce the environmental impact caused by illegal logging, in which are calculated over 330 hectares of forest lost per year.
The pact was signed by more than forty organizations in the public and private sectors and civil society, including the Association of Regional Autonomous Corporations and Sustainable Development, which is part Corpoguajira.
The event, Realized in the presidential palace attended by the President of the Republic, Juan Manuel Santos, who said that the goal of the pact is to ensure that all wood is removed, is marketed and used in Colombia, comes only from legal sources. Likewise, He revealed that the illegal timber business moved around 60 million dollars a year.

As allies of this initiative, CAR strengthen the work of dissemination of legal information, environmental and cartographic, through which they can clearly determine areas of forest where logging activities and timber extraction are legally permitted.
The Pact for Legal Timber in Colombia will have an initial duration of two years, extended agreement between the parties, your subscription will be held within the framework of the celebration of the International Year of Forests.
