Corpoguajira participated in the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment workshop

The event was held in Peru, The representatives of the entity presented the results of the work being carried out in Montes de Oca and the implementation of the POMCA of the Carraipía River.

With the purpose of evaluating the sensitivity and vulnerability of the values ​​of the identified resources to climate change, elaborate, analyze and discuss possible management responses and access and interpret the information available on this phenomenon; took place in Lima – Peru, the 6 the 10 August 2012, the workshop “Assessment of Vulnerability to Climate Change”, activity that had the active participation of Corpoguajira.

The event was coordinated by the United States Bureau of Forest Services, entity that extended an invitation to Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. The latter was granted three quotas that were distributed among the environmental authorities of La Guajira and Atlántico.. The Ecosystems and Biodiversity Coordinator attended for the Corporation, Gregoria Fonseca Lindao and the Head of the Planning Advisory Office, Additionally, it is an opportunity to ratify at the national level our commitment to environmental education processes aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources”.

As part of the developed agenda, tools were also provided to identify the framework and resources necessary for an effective assessment of vulnerability to climate change and to identify and classify the problems and values ​​of the resources of interest..

The representatives of Corpoguajira presented the results of the work being carried out in the Montes de Oca Protective Forest Reserve and the implementation of the Planning and Management Plan for the Carraipía River Basin; activities that contribute greatly to the adaptation to climate change of this area.

In addition to the academic part, A field trip was made to Cordillera Escalera, a Regional Protected Area of 150.000 hectares, located in the San Martín region, Tarapoto District (Peru).

Corpoguajira's participation in the workshop will allow us to evaluate the sensitivity, vulnerability and resilience of the ecosystems and basins of the region with adaptability to climate change, Likewise, it will provide inputs for the formulation of the entity's Action Plan for the period 2012 – 2015.
