Corpoguajira Wayuu communities poses alternatives for sustainable exploitation of charcoal

During a meeting in the settlement of Yaguaka (Manaure), the indigenous community residing in this locality, Corpoguajira and other public institutions analyzed the issue of the exploitation and marketing of charcoal. This came at the request of members of the ethnic group to lift restrictions of this economic activity by the critical social situation in which they live, derived from the intense summer plaguing the region.

According Yaguaka community charcoal extraction has become the only form of financial support with which have, since they are drought and a few animals with. In this situation, the Director General of Corpoguajira, engineer Luis Medina Toro, He urged these institutions to work on solving these problems comprehensively.

The Director of the highest environmental authority, He presented the proposals of the institution to face the difficulties of the Wayuu community, as the improvement of fishing, marketing indigenous crafts, the adoption of ethno, the planting and marketing of crops such as aloe, strengthening of beekeeping, among other projects.

During the meeting the Corporation stated that it is possible to raise operating models of charcoal from tropical dry forests, in the context of sustainable scheme, for which it is necessary to perform preliminary studies prior to implementation.
