The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, headed by its Director-General, Luis Manuel Medina Toro, actively participates in the COP23 global climate change summit in the city of Bonn, Germany, which has the presence of more than 26 thousand people from different countries, including ministers, government entities, key actors, and presidents of cooperating countries and countries that require support to mitigate and invest in adaptation measures for climate variability.
The objective of the summit that began on 6 of November and ends on 17 of the same month, is that nations promote climate action from their territory to confront global warming and put the world on a path of safer and more prosperous development..
The first week of COP23 negotiations in Bonn, has made progress in two important points for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. One of them is that the ministers found progress in relation to the rules for the implementation of said Agreement., and likewise the “Talanoa Dialogue”, which establishes the design of the conditions for the review of the climate commitments assumed by the countries at the 2018, to ensure that the planet's temperature remains at an average of acceptable levels.
During the development of COP23, several transformative initiatives have emerged, including one from the United Nations on health and island states. This is a platform to support the participation of local communities and indigenous peoples, and the development of a comprehensive risk protection project to provide affordable insurance to 400 millions of people in situations of poverty and vulnerability.
