Corpoguajira made important contributions to the Departmental Development Plan

alt

Luis Medina Toro, Head of Corpoguajira Planning Advisory Office

During the socialization of the Departmental Development Plan, Corpoguajira made some observations and contributions, that will contribute to including the environmental dimension in this important document.

This Corporation requested to take into account the environmental problems of the peninsula, among which aspects such as the shortage of drinking water stand out, the significant advance in the process of desertification and drought, the accelerated erosion in the sources and margins of the hydrographic basins, low coverage and quality of water and sewage services, little inter-institutional articulation in environmental management to achieve sustainable human development in the department, the impact on biodiversity and fragmentation in strategic ecosystems such as the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Serranía del Perijá, Coastal Zones, La Macuira mountain range; inadequate collection, transportation and final disposal of solid waste, inter alia.

Corpoguajira was represented by the Head of the Planning Advisory Office, Luis Medina Toro, who, within the framework of the strategic lines of the PGAR 2009-2019, recommended articulating actions with strong impacts to achieve the expected results, make management more efficient and validate the resource allocation process. In this sense, they should be considered, among others, the following elements:

Allocate resources to sustainable development objectives, support the implementation of protected area management plans, implement actions to mitigate environmental impacts that limit water availability, the degree of basic sanitation and land use; support the strengthening of productive forest chains, implement pilot projects for adaptation and mitigation to climate change, conserve biodiversity, ecosystems, goods, environmental services and cultural elements.

The event took place at the facilities of the Departmental Assembly of La Guajira.
