Corpoguajira second summit held against environmental crime

The aim of the event, is to evaluate the progress of the institutional commitments of the first summit, sign the intersectoral agreement for legal wood in La Guajira and include the environmental watchdogs of the protected areas, as actors for the prevention and control of crimes that threaten biodiversity.

The event, will take place on thursday 4 December 2014, from the 9:00 am, the Hatonuevo House of Culture (south of La Guajira).

The activity will have the participation of representatives of Corpoguajira, public force, entes territoriales, the Attorney General's Office (La Guajira sectional), the Attorney General's Office, Environmental and Agrarian, entre otras entidades.

Environmental crimes are punished with confinement in penitentiary centers with sentences ranging from 48 and 108 months in prison, in accordance with Colombian laws. These activities cause significant damage to the rivers and bodies of water that supply the department's aqueducts., Likewise they cause erosion, avalanches and destruction of the ecosystem.
