For two days Corpoguajira analyzed with the inhabitants of the south of La Guajira, solutions to environmental problems related to water resources, solid waste, deforestation and illegal mining.

Through Environmental Dialogues, Corpoguajira met from the south of La Guajira, day 13 and 14 February 2014, to analyze directly with the inhabitants of the municipalities in the south of the department, the problems that most afflict this area of ​​the peninsula, regarding water resources, solid waste, deforestation and illegal mining.

The Director General of Corpoguajira, Luis Manuel Medina Toro and several professionals from the entity, responded to the requests and suggestions made by the community, which massively attended the meetings scheduled in Fonseca, San Juan del Cesar and Villanueva, places where residents of the surrounding municipalities were also present.

Among the agreed commitments, It is important to highlight the water supply by the environmental authority, as a contingency measure during the dry season, to the communities of the Provincial and Zahino reservations (Barrancas), through tank cars.

Corpoguajira also reported in the Environmental Dialogues, that will carry out the pertinent steps to strengthen the governance of water flows, for the purpose of permanently monitoring the concessions granted, as well as review the status of the supply sources of the aqueducts of the municipalities that make up the southern area of ​​the peninsula..

Regarding the problem of solid waste, The Corporation stated that it will support the design and execution of a garbage collection scheme in rural areas. Additionally, he announced that he is working on two projects to eradicate satellite dumps., environmental education days and in the implementation of the environmental comparison.

In relation to the issue of illegal mining, The entity explained that on Tuesday 18 February 2014, will hold the Summit Against Environmental Crimes, to jointly articulate with the authorities a protocol of inter-institutional actions that allow achieving the effectiveness of the operations carried out in the department, to combat this scourge that greatly affects the biodiversity and natural resources of the region.
