CORPOGUAJIRA RECEIVES EQUIPMENT FOR BIODIVERSITY MONITORING, STRENGTHENING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND CONSERVATION STRATEGIES FOR THE REGION

Through the Natural Wealth Program, the United States Agency for International Development - USAID, donated key equipment such as camera traps, portable computer, hypsometer and bird telescope for monitoring fauna and flora of biodiversity. The donation is a complement to the Corpoguajira staff training process with the Javeriana University, also supported by USAID.

The teams will provide trained professionals with tools to improve control and surveillance decision-making processes., strengthening the conservation of tropical dry forest ecosystems.

About donation and conservation work, the Director General of Corpoguajira, Samuel Lanao Robles, He was very grateful for the support received from the international organization.

“The delivery of these equipment will complement the strengthening and training process that USAID's Natural Wealth Program provided to the Corporation., through the Javeriana University, on biodiversity monitoring. Thanks to that, the corporation today has 8 trained officials, who participated in a diploma of 100 hours between September 2020 and april 2021. The graduate sought to strengthen monitoring, contributing to the analysis of the state and trends of biodiversity in the Corporation, in order to improve control and surveillance decision-making processes ".

Lanao Robles, He also indicated that the Corporation will seek to assess the status of the marimondas populations (Atheles hydridus) in the Bañaderos Integrated Management District, identified as a conservation priority for the environmental authority.

"I highlight the willingness of the Corporation to continue working hand in hand with international organizations in favor of the conservation of the environment and our natural resources within the department of La Guajira", concluded.
