CORPOGUAJIRA Recognized for the conservation of their 9 PROTECTED AREAS

The Caribbean region is moving steadily in preserving protection zones, In days gone by national authorities they met to establish policies and strategies to ensure the continuity of actions for environmental sustainability.
Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira - CORPOGUAJIRA is a few months to declare its tenth protected area demonstrating its commitment to the environment. During the holding of the meeting of directors of the most significant environmental authorities at regional level, the director of the Regional Protected Areas System - Caribbean SIRAP granted recognition to the Corporation for its ongoing management for the recovery and conservation of the species living in areas declared by the same.

The meeting became the appropriate stage for the Colombian Caribbean reaffirm its commitment to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, and invite local authorities and ambitious strategy to take urgent measures and actors, oriented knowledge and scientific evidence, to reduce fragmentation of strategic ecosystems and promote life in harmony between people and nature.

One of the most important management results Protected Areas System is the prioritization and approval of two projects in the Caribbean Pact National Development Plan, aimed at strengthening regional protected areas and promote community-based ecotourism and conservation strategies to recover the ecological structure of the region. These two flagship projects of SIRAP help to halt deforestation in the region and promote sustainable productive projects through cluster biocompetitive.
Johnny Avendaño President of SIRAP Caribbean highlighted the importance of strengthening regional protected areas in line with national and international conservation goals and underlined the ecosystem value being to ensure safeguarding ecosystem services requires the development of the region. In turn stressed the importance of the declaration of 6 protected areas over the past two years totaling more than 100 hectares in the Colombian Caribbean.

Corpoguajira from their missionary commitment negotiated with the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development the project to strengthen the system of administration and management 4 regional protected areas, pointing to ecotourism development in the region, training the guardians of environment and peace of each conservation area and building huts monitoring and receiving visitors to generate environmental education.
