The Board of Corpoguajira, approved the agreement 009 of 2012, through which the production of charcoal is regulated in the department, taking into account that this process is currently carried out without any control, affecting plant species that do not have the dendroenergetic characteristics required to produce this material.
«We are going to develop strategies that allow us to reduce and regulate the indiscriminate felling of forests, its transformation and commercialization illegally, through the implementation of reforestation programs that contemplate the establishment of wood energy forests and thereby generate productive processes for indigenous communities.”, Pinto Jaime Bermudez stated, Director (It) of Corpoguajira.
This project also aims to seek an integration of the actors, allowing the Corporation to maintain control over the extraction, marketing and subsequent planting of these species, as a compensation measure, to create planted forests that guarantee the self-sustainable exploitation of the natural plant resource for the production of charcoal in the medium and long term.
Corpoguajira will grant forestry use permits for the transformation of the timber product into charcoal , upon submission of the application by the interested parties.
Permits will not be granted in natural forests for the production of charcoal for marketing purposes.. Authorizations will only be issued for domestic consumption and supply of local consumption demand., obeying tradition and custom of use.
For permit requests, A single forest plantation or forestry management plan must be presented to the Corporation.. Corpoguajira will determine the compensation site and the type of forest species according to the environmental characteristics of the area.
When it is a property located in an indigenous reservation, peasant and Afro-descendant communities, will be governed by the provisions of the Decree 1791 of 1996.
