Corpoguajira joins the call made by the Regional Autonomous Corporations, to the National Government to articulate actions against possible La Niña phenomenon.

This is how the environmental authorities requested that President Juan Manuel Santos, give priority to the implementation of national committee strategies, departmental and municipal, in which CARs participate, to determine actions in the face of knowledge, reduction and management of the phenomenon. Similarly, The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development is requested to, determine the guidelines, national guidelines and guidelines to face the effects of the La Niña phenomenon.

This request is made taking into account the announcement of the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideas), of the increase in the probability of occurrence of La Niña, for the last quarter of this year, in a 76% and by the experience of the past climate phenomenon 2010-2011.

In this regard, Corpoguajira, recommends to the Government of La Guajira, municipal authorities, Regional and Local Committees for Disaster Prevention and Response and the general public, redouble surveillance of unstable and highly vulnerable areas, and carry out the necessary actions to reduce the risks related to the presence of this climate phenomenon.

The highest environmental authority in line with the suggestions of IDEAM, has been replicating and interpreting the information from meteorological forecasts and carrying out environmental education campaigns related to the La Niña phenomenon to mitigate the effects of the arrival of the rains and avoid major impacts in the department of La Guajira..
