“Corpoguajira sí le está cumpliendo a los guajiros”: Romero Pérez

Corpoguajira has been a national pioneer in efforts related to disaster prevention and mitigation department, This is demonstrated by actions such as strengthening the early warning system, allowing vulnerable timely inform the community about the formation of storms, minor and major hurricanes. Also they have consistently provided appropriate recommendations to bathers, small boat fishermen and the residents near rivers that descend from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

With an investment of approximately 4.800 millions of pesos, Corpoguajira implemented mechanisms to improve the channeling, channelization and bank protection of rivers Jerez, Reeds, Cotoprix and Paraguachón, to prevent overflow, provide protection to different aqueducts and contributing to erosion control on the banks of these water bodies.

Recently, Corpoguajira held two important agreements, with which it has increased during the 2011, the work of risk prevention and flood control. One with the municipality of Riohacha worth $745.328.562. The other agreement was signed with the municipality of Dibulla, by $719.424.531 in order to recover several stretches of river and stream María Mina El Mamey and timely prevent erosion and flooding of sectors Joivice II, located in the village of Las Flores and stream El Mamey, Palomino corregimiento (Dibulla).

With these investments, the highest environmental authority of La Guajira fulfills the Decree 4629 of 2010, issued by the National Government, in order to provide resources by the CAR, to counteract and / or mitigate situations of national emergency disaster and social, economic and ecological throughout the national territory.

Similar works, also be brought forward this year in Villanueva and rivers Cañaverales, south of La Guajira, to avoid overflow their banks.

"It is true we have used resources to advance prevention work and disaster mitigation of the cold wave, for other purposes. If we are fulfilling the guajiros, and we are highly committed to risk management actions ", Romero Perez explains Arcesio, General Manager Corpoguajira.

In La Guajira, ecosystems have undergone human intervention processes that have deteriorated relationships and attitudes of citizens to the environment as reflected in facts: burning and indiscriminate felling, water pollution sources surface and ground, noise, illegal trafficking of wildlife, emission of air pollutants, inadequate agricultural practices, inadequate solid waste disposal, erosion and deterioration of the urban landscapes.

Therefore and as high environmental authority, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, advances in the area of ​​its jurisdiction activities, plans and projects that are part of the commitments made in its Action Plan 2007 – 2011, in the training program, environmental education and awareness, with the aim of generating processes that help build a social fabric around the respect for the environment and natural resources, generating a participatory environmental culture.

One component of this program was the production of the CD entitled "The Earth has a fever", innovative work which included the participation of renowned musicians and performers in the region sang to the conservation of the environment and natural resources. This product was socialized with educational institutions department, universities, official and private entities, environmental NGOs and the wider community. The realization of the CD took place the first half of 2010, through an agreement signed with the Guajira Culture Foundation, giving the Corporation the sum of $274.560.000.

In addition to the production of CD, They were carried out in different promotions mass media, pedagogical days on the beaches of the region, socialization of labor with entities that are in the formulation of their School Environmental Projects, Environmental organizations, transport companies, ecological and national character evenings events such as workshops program, seminars, Bioexpo Colombia 2010 and the International Environmental Fair.

Corpoguajira is allowed to communicate is at disposal to provide all information necessary to deepen this issue to the wider community, media and control bodies and surveillance.
