In order to generate an environmental culture according to the urbanization process that urban areas have in some municipalities of the department, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, He socialized the pilot project that aims to implement environmental strategies for the integrated management of solid waste for three municipalities in the south of the department.

They will 800 families who will become producers of municipal solid waste and be distributed as follows: La Jagua del Pilar 150 families, Urumi 350 Families and El Molino 300 beneficiary families.

These families will be selected through a survey to determine more accurately the degree of interest, partition and commitment of the community to join the project and contribute to environmental improvement, landscape and culture of each municipality based on its development.

They will be installed in Urumita and El Molino, 30 Ecopoints in parks, educational institutions and public places; while in La Jagua del Pilar will be installed 10 Ecopoints for a total of 40.

Once collected waste, they will be processed to produce compost, which they will be given a part to peasants and farmers to use the final product in different cultures grown in rural and urban areas of each municipality.

The project will also establish a schedule with their respective microrruta, where you will be collecting waste properly classified with a frequency of 3 times a week.

At this stage the institutionality of municipalities will be strengthened in promoting civic culture through environmental summonses. It will be stipulated the value of sanctions, responsibilities, such violations, responsible for the implementation of the summons, among others established by law.

While for the disposal of satellites dumps heavy machinery will be used to collect waste dumped in municipal sectors and which can only be collected mechanically, specifically where the most significant satellites dumps each municipality distributed so: La Jagua del Pilar 3, Urumi 9 and El Molino 6.

All these phases will be accompanied by awareness-raising and environmental training based on the implementation of theoretical workshops - practical, to improve the attitude of the population towards the management of solid waste in homes.

It should be noted that the above-mentioned municipalities, generate daily average approximately 8 a 9 tons of solid waste, ie around 240 a 270 tons per month. All of these wastes are disposed of indiscriminately.
