The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Juan Gabriel Uribe Vegalara; the Vice Minister of the Environment, Adriana Soto; the Director General of Corpoguajira, Luis Medina Toro and officials of the two entities, held important meetings with different communities of La Guajira, with the purpose of analyzing and seeking solutions to various environmental problems suffered by the region.
The agenda began with a work table in which the, inter alia, representatives of the Government of La Guajira, of the Municipal Mayors of Barrancas, Fonseca, San Juan del Cesar and Albania and officials of the Corporation, to analyze different aspects of the project carried out between MADS and Corpoguajira, with the purpose of achieving the reestablishment of elements of structure and function of the DMI Serranía de Perijá, through active and passive restoration, process that will result in the reconversion of land use, so that in the future it will be completely covered by protective vegetation, thus achieving the gradual recovery of the natural functions that they originally offered. During the meeting, a summary of the problem of coastal erosion in La Guajira and a complete report on the works carried out between the Ministry and the environmental authority were also presented., for the attention and mitigation of effects caused by the winter wave.

During the meeting the Minister and the Director of Corpoguajira, They reaffirmed the commitment to articulate efforts within the framework of the Agreement signed between both entities, to address this problem that affects the coasts of the peninsula.
Various indigenous authorities, They received the Minister and his companions in Uribia, to request your support on different environmental issues suffered by the Wayúu population.
The agenda concluded with the official delivery of the works that allowed the recovery of several eroded sections of the Paraguachón River. (Maicao). The work was carried out jointly between the Ministry and Corpoguajira., and included the construction of channeling works, channeling and gabions in longitudinal and breakwater type walls. This important management contributes to the mitigation of floods or events that may occur in the area., due to the overflow of the river, during winter seasons.
