Within the framework of the II Regional Forum on Sustainable Livestock, celebrated in San Juan del Cesar, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira and the Colombian Federation of Livestock Farmers, Sign an Understanding Agreement with the objective of promoting strategic management of natural resources in livestock areas of the department.
In this sense, The parties agreed to promote the adoption of silvopastoral production systems and increase connectivity in livestock landscapes between segments of forests or highly fragmented natural ecosystems., through the development of biological corridors, to increase the provision of environmental services (biodiversity, floor, water and carbon retention), and increase productivity on livestock farms.
By Corpoguajira, committed to carrying out actions that encourage the adoption of sustainable production systems by the department's livestock farmers, through the planting of native species trees on the farms.
Likewise, seeks to reduce soil degradation, promote the conservation of forests and waterways through reforestation on river banks, ravines and the isolation of these areas.
Within the Agreement, the Corporation will provide agroforestry technical assistance, nursery production of required plant material, lead a commitment agreement between the owners of the properties where the conservation obligation is agreed, protect vegetation covers and monitor these agreements to guarantee sustainability.
This Agreement is signed, based on the fact that the Corporation has been leading the Environmental Services Payment Program in protected areas of La Guajira that encourages the sustainable use and management of protected areas and the socio-labor conservation of local actors that generate environmental impact on the different ecosystems..
