IN CORRALEJAS RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE RAIN PERIOD ARE ASSESSED

Attending the call of the inhabitants of Corralejas, town of San Juan Del Cesar, who reported landslides and channel obstruction in the upper basin of the surface water source called the Capuchino River, We were present in the company of the Municipal Mayor's Office and the Risk Management Unit in order to publicize the results of technical analysis of the possible risks that communities may face in the current winter season.. And propose possible solutions to it.

At the site, the existence of two large rocks located on the bed of the Capuchino River was evident., causing a progressive erosion of the mountain depression corresponding to the Perijá mountain range, which could cause slippage, and degradation of native flora, topsoil, loose material and rocks.

For the proper management of this situation, We socialize the results of the visit to the community, in the company of the mayor of San Juan del Cesar and the Municipal Council for Disaster Risk Management. It should be noted that it is of utmost importance for the community, maintain daily monitoring in the affected area so that the competent entities with the matter and the community of the surrounding area are kept informed.

the physical conditions found added to the constant rains that predominate in the sector, By saturating the adjacent soil, it generates risk downstream due to the dragging of material., Therefore, during the socialization of this situation in the town of Corralejas, We make the following recommendations:

-Follow the guidelines stipulated by the Municipal Council for Disaster Risk Management

-Stay permanently informed through radio and other media, of weather forecasts and the state of the situation.

-Stay away from water sources, torrents and low areas of slopes and hills, avoiding crossing flooded fords.

-Go to the highest points in the area.

Remember that prevention measures help reduce the damage that can result from natural disasters.

As support to mitigate these risks, The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira will formulate projects for the municipalities that have resources to carry out soil studies and by the mayor of San Juan Del Cesar, will manage before the government of La Guajira the support of machinery for the cleaning of the Capuchino and Cañaveral rivers.
