Culture and tradition in La Guajira Urumita place of dreams, FLOWERS AND CALAGUALAS

Today the discussion will be held in the municipality of Urumita "Building knowledge about Gardening and the Urumita Calagualas, La Guajira" starting at 08:00 a.m. at the club La Gota Fría. The above, within the Folk Festival, Cultural and Environmental Center of Flores y Calagualas that is celebrated in this municipality.

Gardening is a traditional trade that has been practiced in this population since its inception thanks to the benefits of the climate, water flow and the imposing presence of the Serranía de Perijá: perfect joint for the growth and development of Calaguala flowers and ferns. One of the attractions of this festival is the route that natives and visitors can take, appreciating the efforts of the participants.

The objective of the academic event will be oriented towards the analysis of the impact that the gardening profession generates in different dimensions of daily life and the permanence and stability of our environment.

During the discussion the first part will be devoted to the contribution that the gardening service makes to the environmental and cultural system, considering issues like gardens and climate change, gardens and vallenata composition and the intervention of the planters, Absolute owners of this intangible heritage of the urumiteros. The second part will be dedicated to the folk theme with the theme environment in which the cold drop was born and the Flores y Calagualas festival took place.

As guest speakers will be attended by the teacher Rosendo Romero, forestry engineer Luis Guerra López, the gardener Carmelina Brochero in the environmental section and in the folkloric segment will be the teachers William Moron, Julio Oñate Martínez, Fabio Zuleta and Armando Nieves.

Folkloric and environmental activities started last Monday 2 September and will run until Sunday 8 of the same month, with folkloric contests like Accordion, Unpublished Song and Piqueria. In the same way, the presentation of artists of recognized trajectory.

Entities of the department such as Corpoguajira, Urumita municipal mayor, the Municipal Culture Coordination, the Festival of Flowers and Calagualas Foundation and the New Future Foundation are committed and articulated to strengthen the cultural tradition in the department.
