Due to the drought, Corpoguajira advances actions to adapt catchments and release the Ranchería riverbed

Given the severe drought affecting the department, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, with support from the National Army, began actions to adapt the catchments and release the Ranchería River channel, so that the communities that benefit from the water resources of said basin can continue using the water for their work..

To carry out these works, a technical table was formed made up of representatives of Corpoguajira., Incoder and Asorancheria, which is responsible for socializing the users of the ditches about the importance of the interventions carried out by the environmental authority..

The work is carried out in the municipalities of Fonseca, Barrancas and Distraction. With this management, Corpoguajira contributes to the increase in the flow downstream of the Ranchería River, benefiting, in this time of climatic adversity, to the populated centers that are supplied with the precious liquid to carry out different activities.

Corpoguajira reiterates to the people and organizations that benefit from the department's rivers to use water rationally, mainly during the drought period, emphasizing article 122 decree 1541 of 1978, which gives environmental entities the power to control the use of flows during times of crisis, although this affects the concessions and permits granted temporarily.

Similar work will also be carried out in the rivers that descend from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
