It recently culminated in Santa Marta, the first meeting of the Caribbean and Insular Climate Change Node, corresponding to the validity 2013.
During the meeting, the fundamental role that Corpoguajira has in the organization was recognized, progress of the Node and the impulse given by the entity, factors that have allowed greater integration and disposition of environmental organizations, to work together on the issue of climate change in the region. Since its creation in 2010, This organism went from being the weakest, to become the one with the greatest strategic advance in the entire country.
Within the framework of the event, Corpoguajira presented through the Ecoambiente Foundation, the progress of a context analysis for the formulation of a plan to counteract the effects of climate change in the department; Other national entities socialized the roadmap to formulate regional and territorial adaptation plans to this phenomenon and a general outline of the operation of the General Royalties System., to apply to the financing of projects in the matter.
«The development and coordination process of this Regional Node, has understood the orientation of the efforts made by some environmental authorities of the Colombian Caribbean, to reduce the risks of the population, economic sectors and ecosystems in the face of the impacts of climate change that are already evident, and thus aim towards sustainable development that is compatible with the climate of the region. Maintaining this function in force has been the plan from the beginning and the key to the achievements achieved.", Engineer Eliumat Maza Samper pointed out, Corpoguajira official and coordinator of the Caribbean and Island Climate Change Node.
The National Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS), designed a national strategy for the creation of eight Regional Nodes, which operate in areas with similar biogeographic conditions, coordinating issues related to climate change throughout the country,
Representatives of the Environmental Authorities of La Guajira participated in this first meeting., Magdalena, Atlantic, Bolivar, Sugar, Córdoba and San Andrés Islands; as well as MADS officials, Institute of Environmental Studies –IDEAM-National Planning Department, National Risk Management Unit, National Parks, University of La Guajira, WWF International Foundation, among other entities in the sector.
