Director of Corpoguajira and Minister of the Environment, will deliver flood mitigation works in the Paraguachón River

The representatives of the two entities, They will also examine the effects caused by coastal erosion in Riohacha.

The Director General of Corpoguajira, Luis Manuel Medina Toro and the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Juan Gabriel Uribe Vegalara; They will carry out the official delivery of the works that allowed the recovery of several eroded sections of the Paraguachón River (Maicao). The work was carried out jointly between both entities and included the construction of channeling works., channeling and gabions in longitudinal and breakwater type walls.

This important management contributes to the mitigation of floods or events that may occur in the area., due to the overflow of the river, during winter seasons.

As part of the invitation issued by Corpoguajira, the Minister of Environment, will also participate in a working group with several officials of the Corporation and the Municipal Mayors of Barrancas, Fonseca, San Juan del Cesar and Albania; to analyze different aspects of the works carried out between MADS and Corpoguajira, with the purpose of achieving the reestablishment of elements of structure and function of the DMI Serranía de Perijá, through active and passive restoration, process that will result in the reconversion of land use, so that in the future it will be completely covered by protective vegetation, thus achieving the gradual recovery of the natural functions that they originally offered.

The agenda to develop, It also includes a meeting with leaders and communities from the José Antonio Galán and Nuevo Faro neighborhoods. (Riohacha), to examine the effects caused by coastal erosion in that area of ​​the capital of the department, within the framework of the Agreement signed between MADS and Corpoguajira, to address this problem that affects the coasts of the peninsula.

Activities will take place on days 5 and 6 March 2013.
