in tugueka: sign agreement of wills for sustaining natural resources

DSCF6087

By: Communications Equipment

After traveling a motorcycle footprint plate for a space of 40 minutes, you reach Tugueka Kogui population located in the Río Ancho basin, municipality of Dibulla.

The road seems tortuous, but the vegetation and the music of the environment take us to what the collective imagination conceives as paradise. Tugueka is a place full of nature, where time stood still and its roughly 500 inhabitants live between the contemplative routine typical of the spiritual rigor of the Kogui and the daily activities of an agricultural economy.

In recent years, This hidden paradise has been affected by western influence that depresses the environment by cutting down the forests and promoting illegal mining..

Corpoguajira in its policies of conservation and protection of the environment has promoted the signing of an agreement of wills that links the traditional authorities of the Kogui ethnic group, to the entities responsible for ensuring the rational and sustainable use of natural resources and the institutions that within their functions have the obligation to punish criminal conduct with the environment.

Similarly, Corpoguajira formulates the construction of plans, programs and projects necessary for the restoration and environmental rehabilitation of the territory in which the Tugueka community of the Kaggaba people is settled. (Koggui) of the Kogui reservation- Malayo-Arhuaco in which he is currently working with the leaders of the region.

Additionally, the entity has been working hand in hand with new generations through the local school on environmental education issues, which are reinforced with recreational activities through drawings., writings and poems that show the interest in respecting, caring for and enjoying their environment according to their ancestral customs.

This type of activity has been carried out in every corner of the department, respecting the ethnic traditions and the knowledge of the ancient cultures settled in the peninsula.

To benefit the community of Tugueka, Corpoguajira presented to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development an influential project that allows working with the community to sustain the natural resources of the place., including water sources.

A similar process is being carried out with some Wayuu communities located in Alta Guajira..
