The Corporate Assembly of Corpoguajira was successfully held, chaired by the Governor of the Department, Juan Francisco Gómez Cerchar and the mayors of the peninsula.

In this activity Arcesio Romero Pérez, General Manager Corpoguajira, presented the management report of the Action Plan, vigencia 2011, detailing the most significant achievements of the entity during the previous year, among them:

Advances in Risk Management for disaster prevention and response, highlighting the formulation of the Action Plan for Emergency Response and Mitigation of its Effects, which has been executed in a 73.54%. Strengthening the Early Warning System Office. Permanent monitoring and follow-up of the El Niño and La Niña phenomenon and its influences on La Guajira and the execution of gabion protection works for the recovery of the Paraguachón rivers, Reeds, Sherry, Mariamina and Arroyo El Mamey.

Regarding actions for the conservation of watersheds, four were declared in Ordination: Jerez river, Lagarto – Maluisa, Negro y San Salvador. The reforestation of 422 hectares naturally, meanwhile 5.076 were protected for natural regeneration in the conservation of watersheds. In this component, they declared 8.494 hectares with their management plans in execution.

On the other hand, the highest environmental authority invoiced during the first semester of 2011 but from $327 millions per polluting load discharged. Se realizó el seguimiento y control en la ejecución de los Planes de Saneamiento y Manejo de Vertimientos aprobados a 14 municipios y se completaron 248 análisis de muestras puntuales de agua superficial y subterránea.

At 2011 la Corporación trabajó en 22 planes de conservación de especies de fauna y flora amenazadas. Se llevaron a cabo 19 retenes ambientales de control. Fueron decomisamos 102 metros cúbicos de madera y 738 especímenes de fauna silvestre.

En cuanto a la promoción de procesos productivos competitivos y sostenibles se cumplió la meta de fortalecer a 35 organizaciones vinculadas a la Red Guajira Verde.

En relación con la calidad del agua y del aire se cumplió el 99% de reducción en la carga de contaminación atmosférica. Se realizaron 1.839 air quality monitoring in the mining corridor. Regarding solid waste, The entity contributed to the proper disposal of 89.829 Tons. Nowadays 12 Municipalities already have access to technically adequate waste disposal sites, as landfill and transitional cells. It was fulfilled 100% of the goal of the commitments established in the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plans and with the 100% in the implementation and promotion of the jurisdiction's Comprehensive Hazardous Solid Waste Management Plan.

Among the most important achievements in knowledge and information management, The execution of 16 School Environmental Projects. Seven planning meetings of the Interinstitutional Committee on Environmental Education were held and four Citizen Projects on Environmental Education and University Environmental Projects were promoted..

Today Corpoguajira is the first official entity in La Guajira with ISO Quality Certification 9001:2008, NTCGP:2009 y Certificación Internacional IQ Net, por parte de ICONTEC.

In the Assembly, The Mayors of Albania were also chosen, Oneida Pinto; Maicao, Eurípides Pulido; San Juan del Cesar, Carlos Orozco and Villanueva, Claudia Gomez; who from that date will be part of the Board of Directors of the entity for a period of one year. The activity also included the financial presentation and the report of the fiscal auditor of the Corporation.

The Corporate Assembly is the main management body of the Corporation and is made up of all the legal representatives of the territorial entities of the jurisdiction., in La Guajira it is made up of 14 mayors and the governor.
