In ordinary session of the Departmental Assembly of La Guajira, the Director General of Corpoguajira, Luis Manuel Medina Toro and officials from different areas of the entity, responded to the invitation issued by the Honorable Deputies, to socialize the plans and projects to be executed during the new administration of the environmental authority.
Speaking, The Director of the Corporation made a summary of the environmental problems of the department and explained the diagnoses of the Regional Environmental Management Plan 2009 – 2019. He also detailed the challenges, most important actions and strategies to undertake during your period in charge of the destinies of Corpoguajira, among them:
– Eradication of garbage on streets and roads.
– Implementation of Planning and Management Plans for Hydrographic Basins.
– Governance and sustainability of protected areas.
– Recovery of prioritized basins
– Strengthening the Early Warning System, risk management and climate change actions
– Strengthen operational capacity for environmental surveillance and control (illegal trafficking and protection of flora and fauna).
– Recovery of sites of environmental interest (wetlands and ecological parks).
– Actions to combat desertification and drought
– Green entrepreneurship (green production and consumption).
– Implementation of an environmental observatory , that will operate as a technological network for monitoring and surveillance of natural resources and mining exploitation.
Specific topics were also developed during the session, requested by the Departmental Assembly, among them: layout of the railway line by the CCX company, income received from environmental surcharge, sanctions imposed on several municipalities in the region, and the licenses granted for the exploitation of quarries in Cotoprix.
The Honorable Deputies for their part, They expressed that they will support the environmental management of Corpoguajira, providing the necessary support to achieve environmental sustainability and environmental protection of the region.
The session concluded, with clarification of questions or concerns, formulated by the members of the Departmental Assembly and attendees at the event.
The session also had the participation of the Deputy Director of Environmental Quality of Corpoguajira, Fanny Mejia; the Head of the Planning Advisory Office, Fare Romero Peláez and Fernando Prieto Vargas, Specialized Ecosystems and Biodiversity Professional.
