Indian community in Maicao and adapt actions to mitigate climate change

La Guajira is one of the departments most vulnerable to the effects of climate change in Colombia and particularly its middle and upper zone, which has suffered more intensely the effects of El Niño is asserted to climate change and that due to climate variability, seriously it affects Wayuu indigenous communities found in scattered areas of the department, including those settled in the municipalities of Riohacha and Maicao.

Corpoguajira in its Action Plan 2016-2019, He looked at the project management "IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIONS MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE TO DROUGHT IN INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES OF THE MUNICIPALITIES OF Riohacha and Maicao, La Guajira. "; actions developed to adapt the territory to the various changes.

This project allowed the construction of infrastructure in the community of Ouispa, to capture and / or storage of water to indigenous communities, with the drilling of deep wells by installing solar panels that allow the extraction of water for the inhabitants access.

To date benefited the residents of the municipality of Maicao in the community have a benefit, water supply 24 hours that allow them to offset the impacts of malnutrition, loss of animals and achieve production of their food from the basket.

Corpoguajira continue in their commitment to mitigate environmental impacts arising in the department since its improvements and provide skills to vulnerable communities in La Guajira.
