IN TOTAL SUCCESS, THE DAY OF THE GLOBAL BIG DAY HAPPENED IN THE DEPARTMENT OF LA GUAJIRA

The sighting of key birds such as the Cardinal Guajiro was recorded, Turpial, Yeguas grave, among others that add to the national GBD.

The Global Big Day -GBD took place with complete success in the department of La Guajira, the largest bird watching event in the country, whose main objective is to raise awareness about the importance and conservation, as well as the risk that stalks them.

On the Peninsula they arranged 20 localities where several communities were linked, new reserves and children from different paths. In the particular case of the District of Riohacha, seven points were enabled for the development of the activity, they were: Cerro Bañaderos in the Los Gorros sectors, Mouwa, Cotoprix and Pozo García; the Ranchería River Delta, the Flamingo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary and the Cari Cari community.

During the sighting, key birds were recorded that added to the list of the National GBD, such as the Cardinal Guajiro. (CARDINAL Duninald), Turpial (Icterus icterus), Yeguas grave (Arremonops conirostris), among other shorebirds and migratory birds such as the Calidri bairdy.

The department of La Guajira has a range of species ranging from coastal and wetland birds to Andean birds., which has made it one of the reference points for bird watchers in the world and is categorized within the areas that provide the greatest number of species. (500 approximately) that are associated with the tropical and subtropical dry forest ecosystem, as well as 25 species with unique and almost endemic characteristics in Colombia.

The Global Big Day was held jointly between Corpoguajira, University of La Guajira, Government of La Guajira, public and private entities, travel agencies, bird watchers, guardians of environment and peace, National Police and Secretary of Tourism and Economic Development.
