IN A HEROIC AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT, MANAURE FISHERMEN RETURN WHALE SHARKS TO THE SEA

A commission from the Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira - Corpoguajira moved to Manaure down- to see first-hand how the whale shark arrived at the seashore, occurred during the weekend in this jurisdiction.

During the inspection it was established that the species was returned to its habitat, It did not present injuries and measured around 6 meters. In the same way it could be specified, that the whale shark did not run aground, He came to the coast because he got caught in a fishing net and it was the same fishermen who voluntarily returned him to the sea..

"The boys tell me they are bringing a shark, I immediately reproached them and waited for their arrival to order that it be returned to the sea again. I am aware that these species must be preserved, I belong to a Fishing Association and they continuously explain to us which species can be caught and which cannot. The animal knew land, came back and flew ", indicated Javier Martínez, fisherman from Manaure.

Whale shark (Rhincodon typus), it is a cirumtropical species, pelagic habits, is considered rare and scarce, threatened internationally and its presence throughout the Colombian Caribbean occurs because it is its feeding zone, move following schools of fish or small crustaceans in upwelling areas.

Corpoguajira calls on the community to always be alert and support the conservation of species so that they remain in their natural and wild state.

"I want to thank you on behalf of the Autonomous Corporation for the gesture that the fishermen had to release the animal, achieve its protection and return it to its natural habitat ", said Samuel Lanao Robles, General Director of the entity.
