The use of wood as fuel for cooking food is everyday in the rural area of La Guajira, which has a considerable negative impact on the forest resource by excessive logging for the supply and daily needs of residents. It has statistical data in rural communities, approximately 90% of families cook using firewood and 63.3 % Forest extractive activities is due to the use of firewood in rural kitchen.

Faced with this environmental problems Corpoguajira provides communities the option will change the traditional stove by a Ecoefficient, Whereas this keeps more heat, generates less firewood consumption, less time spent preparing food, absence of smoke into the kitchens, best hygiene and health conditions and overall reduction of air pollution by reducing emissions of particulate matter (ashes) and gases that affect global warming, as carbon dioxide.

Stoves fulfill the mission of being more environmentally friendly, improving drainage systems and emissions control pollutants and protect health. It is important to note that each beneficiary receives training for proper handling and proper use of the same, who will contribute to reducing pollution and improving their quality of life.
