Today they were sown 13.500 trees, distributed among the municipalities of Riohacha, Maicao, Manaure, Uribia, Albania and Hatonuevo. The second phase will take place on 19 October in the south of the department.
The first reforestation phase, made by Corpoguajira to commemorate International Tree Day, had the active participation of the members of the La Guajira Chainsaw Association, a group made up of 250 people who are in the process of job retraining, to abandon illegal logging, and engage in other economic activities that do not harm the environment and natural resources.
The tree planting day was held today in Riohacha, Maicao, Manaure, Uribia, Albania and Hatonuevo; including several townships of these municipalities. A total of 13.500 trees of fruit and native species were planted by community leaders, councilors, promoters and environmental watchdogs; committed to the sustainable development of the department.
The second phase will take place on 19 October in the municipalities that make up the south of La Guajira. The goal set by the Corporation is to complete a total of 50.000 trees planted throughout the peninsula, in order to support the national strategy to mitigate the carbon footprint and mitigate the effects of global warming in this area of the country.
The sowing work had the technical assistance and accompaniment of Corpoguajira.
The activity has the support of the Municipality of Riohacha, Cerrejón, Geceli by, Pacific Rubiales, Peninsula waters, Aså, Social Management Division of Cerrejón, Chevron, National Army, National Police, Red Together, Santa Marta concession – Paraguachón, University veedurías, Colba, Community Action Boards, leaders, promoters, lookouts environmental, among other entities that have articulated work with the Corporation to contribute to a more prosperous and sustainable Guajira.
