Expedition "The Footprints of Seturma", an environmental tour of the Ranchería River.

The Director General of Corpoguajira, Luis Manuel Medina Toro and members of the Guanebucán Foundation, Biota Foundation, Caribbean Environmental Heritage Foundation, of Guajira Adventure organizations, Guajira Siempre and the Red Cross; participated in the expedition “Las Huellas de Seturma” (Ranchería river name, before the arrival of the Spanish and the Wayúu indigenous), made from Guaimaral (Km 13 from the Riohacha road – Maicao) until the Riito.

The activity was part of the studies that are being carried out in the Ranchería river delta, to recognize the conditions of its navigability, channel and current; highlight the geographical risks due to erosion factors, palisades or natural dams; deforestation parallel to the body of water and study the conditions of flora and fauna on the banks of the river.

The expedition also served to identify the communities settled in the area of ​​influence and prioritize sustainable development projects related to eco and ethnotourism..

Once the tour is over, a discussion was held, which was attended by the Indigenous Governor, José Francisco Brugés Cotes and representatives of El Pasito, Cangrejito and several communities settled on the right bank of the river; who together with Corpoguajira and other participating members, concluded that it is necessary to advance the process that allows the declaration of this area of ​​Ranchería as a protected area, with the firm purpose of achieving the conservation of its flora and fauna, regulate floodplains and protect their associated ecosystems.

The navigation was carried out aboard Kayacas nautical equipment and shallow draft boats.
