SIGNATURE OF THE AGREEMENT FOR THE FORMALIZATION OF MINING IN LA GUAJIRA

At a time when the Director of Corpoguajira, Luis Medina Toro and Vice Minister of Mines and Energy, Carlos Sing Bridges, sign document to join technical efforts, administrative and financial to regulate traditional mining in the region.

Corpoguajira y el Ministerio de Minas y Energía, signed today an agreement that seeks to implement actions to formalize in the department small artisanal miners who use their manual means to exploit some material.

This initiative is framed in the policies of Corpoguajira and the National Government, to implement actions aimed at the protection and development of communities dedicated to the extraction of subsoil resources. The above is because these tasks are not carried out under adequate safety conditions.; which leads to social and environmental risks.

From the 2014, Both entities have been jointly developing the mining formalization process in the 15 municipalities in the department, which were initially aimed at the characterization and diagnosis of 149 Mining Productive Units (UPM) and to the intervention of 739 miners in municipalities such as Distraction where the extraction of drag material is carried out, limestone and clay to produce bricks; in Barrancas, copper mining; in Dibulla, gold mining; while in Uribia and Manaure the extraction of gypsum and talc.

The scope of this inter-administrative agreement, is to formalize these activities so that the people who are dedicated to the commercialization of these materials, do so in accordance with the requirements of the natural resources code and other environmental regulations..

Likewise, The strategy aims to provide other work alternatives in order to empower mining families with new knowledge., skills, skills and other ways to generate income with projection over time and sustainability, having social care as its central axis to improve quality of life.

The signing of this agreement took place in the Corporation's auditorium, within the framework of delivery by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, of the Acts of Access to Production Incentives 2016 to contribute to the sustainable development of the municipalities of Dibulla, Barrancas, India, Manaure and Riohacha.
