They were seized 95 VEGETABLE CHARCOAL PACKAGES IN RIOHACHA

In coordination with the National Army and the National Traffic and Transportation Police, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira seized 95 lumps of charcoal in km 5 of the Riohacha - Paraguachón road, that they were transported in two vehicles of Venezuelan origin and one of Colombian nationality.

Each sack of fique with charcoal registered an approximate weight of 35 kilos, valued in the national market in $50.000 pesos, reason why the total value of the 95 sacks seized on this occasion is estimated at $4.750.000.

The confiscated material is from the wood cut of the natural forest, product of illegal forest exploitation among those that use species such as: Guayacán (Bulnesia tree), Puy (Tabebuia bilbergii) and fine heart (Platymiscium pinnatum), species that are currently declared threatened in the national territory. Illegal charcoal trafficking is an activity that significantly affects the region's biodiversity, That is why Corpoguajira in conjunction with the authorities maintains operations against the illegal traffic of said material.
