The Institute of Hydrology Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideas), launched early warnings to the country about water shortages and forest fires.
This was announced by the General Director of IDEAM, Omar Franco Torres, who explained in a press conference, the marked trend of low levels in the country's rivers and the micro basins that supply them.
For the above, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, calls on all inhabitants and companies of the peninsula, because of the possible decline in river levels, which greatly affect water supply in the region.
The Corporation, urges the different actors, including water supply sector, health, productive, agricultural and forestry; to that already implement preventive and care measures, with the aim of protecting the water resource and addressing different situations that may arise at this time of year, which will be marked by drought and high temperatures.
The highest environmental authority of the department, Guajiro invites all to implement the following recommendations:
– To the water supply sectors for the population, closely monitor the evolution of contributions to aqueducts and plan medium-term supply for human consumption.
– To the agricultural sector, forestry and energy, plan the use of water resources this season.
– Find alternative water supply systems for animals.
– Water as much as possible in the late afternoon or at night..
– In homes at high risk from landslides or floods, it is recommended to reduce their vulnerability by strengthening the structures and maintaining canals and water management..
– Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth and wash your hands.
– Take shorter showers and turn off the water while soaping and shampooing apply.
– Use the washing machine with a full load, Do not wash single items, spends more each load 200 liters.
