They initiated actions for the conservation of the otter in La Guajira

Endangered wildlife conservation is a priority for Corpoguajira, for this reason in partnership with the Environmental Compensation Fund and the Foundation Omacha, actions that allow the preservation of otters in the department of La Guajira develop , whose presence was recorded in the Protected Forest Reserve Montes de Oca.

The project aims to scientifically substantiated information on issues such as land use, state, population density, diet and use of natural resources, by Otter, threatened species in the national category of vulnerable (VU).

As part of a pre sampling work conducted in the study area, to set the path of the species and to identify areas for feeding and resting. He also will work with fishermen, farmers and hunters to consolidate information about their presence, habitat use and natural history; seeking to link the community in the design process and Conservation Management Plan Otter, in La Guajira.

Otters are animals who feel more comfortable in the water than on land. They have a thick waterproof coat that allows them to retain your body heat. They are great swimmers and can close their nostrils underwater, can stay up to six minutes without surfacing to breathe.
