Corpoguajira, the National Environmental Fund and Environmental Heritage Foundation Caribbean; initiated technical studies, that will make it possible to establish the viability of the declaration of a protected natural area in the Cerro Pintao Biogeographic Unit (Perijá), in the jurisdiction of the San Juan del Cesar municipalities, El Molino, Villanueva, Urumita and La Jagua del Pilar.

The works include a complete analysis of the biophysical components, faunal, floristic, cultural and socio-economic of the area; in which the presence of ecosystems such as humid and very humid premontane forest stands out; humid and very humid lower montane forest and sub-Andean pluvial páramo.

Aproximadamente 89.152 habitantes, of the municipalities in the area of ​​influence, you will be benefied, since the rivers, streams and springs that are born in the Cerro Pintao Biogeographic Unit, supply the aqueducts and agricultural production activities.

As part of this inter-institutional alliance, the management plan will also be carried out, zoning, the financial sustainability strategy for the protected natural area to be declared and the socialization and coordination of the work with the members of the community.
