Today 2 February is World Wetlands Day and to commemorate, Corpoguajira and the municipal mayor's office hold a working table in the Sala’de Riohacha Lagoon with the purpose of ratifying commitments made by the entities and the community within the framework of the popular action filed four years ago by the environmental authority of La Guajira.
This work table is a preliminary and evaluative meeting for the following activity, which is the implementation of the actions suggested and contained in the study entitled baseline and design of the works of restoration and environmental recovery of the urban wetlands Laguna Sala ’, Bocagrande la Esperanza and The Hand of God of Ríohacha- La Guajira, demanded by Corpoguajira as a compensatory action to the company Elecnorte.
The Environmental Police, Interaseo, town hall, Government, community in general among others will ratify the commitment to implement recovery and conservation actions to stop the accelerated deterioration caused by man in these wetlands.
It should be noted that the RAMSAR convention on wetlands of international importance especially as habitat for waterfowl signed in the city of Ramsar, Iran, el 2 February 1981 and approved in Colombia by the Law 357 of 1997 It is the ratification of our country in the commitment to maintain the ecological characteristics of all its wetlands and to plan the sustainable use of these ecosystems.
Despite the existing national and international regulations that are mandatory, there are no concrete actions for their care and protection, for which it is important to identify risk factors and contamination of what are considered the lungs of a city to work in your solution.
Pollution generated by overcrowding, especially caused by the migratory phenomenon, the forest fires, the filling with rubble to illegally extend private properties, the deterioration of the green life and its own vegetation, as well as the social and economic actions carried out in the place, denote the lack of sense of belonging and rapidly deteriorate the ecosystem.
It should be noted that the Sala lagoon’ in a natural space for the conservation of biodiversity, air purification and regulation of runoff waters from the La Mano de Dios wetlands, La Esperanza and Boca Grande to prevent flooding and safeguard the lives of the surrounding communities.
