TWO SEA TURTLES RELEASED IN MANAURE

The two sea turtles were released on the beaches of Manaure, after being found by the National Police in a lacha.

After the discovery by the National Police, two individuals of green turtle could be recovered, Chelonia mydas, who were in a boat anchored on a beach in the municipality of Manaure.

Turtles correspond to two females, one adult and one juvenile 60 and 40 kilograms approximately and that at the time of its assessment by the professionals of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, were in good condition with no apparent trauma or injury, so the decision was made to immediately release them in a place suitable for their survival.

Currently the green turtle is in endangered threat category according to the Colombian Red Reptile Book and according to the resolution 1912 of 2019, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development is in the same range. The above, bearing in mind that its population has been reduced by a percentage greater than 50% in wildlife.

In addition to the Green turtle, Other determining species for the ecological balance of our seas arrive at La Guajira, such as the Caguama turtle., Cabezona o Gogo (Caretta caretta), Tortuga Carey (Eretmochelys imbricata) and the Canal or Lute turtle (Dermochelys coriacea).

Corpoguajira invites the community to change eating habits by excluding this type of meat and to avoid all kinds of hunting and marketing of these animals since it constitutes a crime typified by Colombian regulations.
