Three sea turtles released, on the beaches of Riohacha


The new administration of Corpoguajira will reinforce surveillance and monitoring in everything related to the trafficking and commercialization of species of fauna and flora.

In an operation carried out by officials of the Corpoguajira Ecosystems and Biodiversity Group and members of the Highway Police, three sea turtles were seized, two of the Carey species (Eretmochelys imbricata) and a green (Chelonia mydas).

The animals were seized at Km 60 of the road that leads from Paraguachón to Riohacha. The person transporting the turtles was identified as Benito Antonio Uriana, identified with citizenship card 17.868.647 de Uribia, who was made available to the Attorney General's Office.
After being confiscated, the animals received a complete medical evaluation, by the Veterinary Doctor of the Corporation, they were later restored to their natural habitat, en las playas de Riohacha. The release had the support of the National Police.

According to the Resolution 383 of 2010, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, green and hawksbill turtles, are endangered and critically endangered, respectively.

In the operation carried out, a pink flamingo was also seized (juvenile individual), that was in the power of an indigenous Wayúu. The bird is recovered in the Ecological House of Riohacha.

During the new administration of the entity, It will reinforce the vigilance and constant monitoring in everything related to the traffic and commercialization of species of fauna and flora, in order to preserve the biodiversity of the region and meet all the observations and requirements expressed by the community of the peninsula.
