Two pink flamingos (Phonicopterus ruber) adulthood, They returned to La Guajira from the department of Tolima, The specimens returned thanks to the alliance with the Autonomous Regional Corporation of Tolima where they were seized for illegal wildlife trafficking.
Once received, The flamingos were subject to safety protocols stipulated by Corpoguajira for their care.. The process began with a medical-veterinary assessment by specialists at the Hogar de Paso in Riohacha and later they were referred to the Jerez Agroecological Center., where they joined a group of 9 more flamingos also coming from the department of Tolima, who suffer from a very similar condition.
The group of 11 flamingos are currently undergoing an arduous process of feather recovery and rehabilitation. The estimated recovery is 6 a 10 months so they can recover their feathers and fly again. Likewise to be able to be returned to their natural habitat.
At Corpoguajira we are committed to the conservation of these endemic species of our Department..
