Regional Autonomous Corporation of Guajira Corpoguajira, through the Division of Environmental Authority, with the support and assistance of the group of ecological protection of the National Police, It has been carrying out environmental operational control over the illegal trafficking of wild fauna and flora in the department.

In this sense, placed checkpoint at Kilometer 5, road from Riohacha to Maicao, where it is possible to recover a (1) Canary (Sicalis flaveola) and one (1) Palguarata ( Mimic gilvus), birds considered according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Least Concern.

Species were seized inside an interdepartmental bus covering the route Maicao- Santa Marta. At the time of the operation, no person was responsible for the birds. After seizure, species were available to officers of the Corporation for evaluation and respective release.

The work of the Corporation, Apart from exercising control illegal trafficking of species; It is also raising awareness through information campaigns tenure or commercial use of any species. Likewise, is notified, who was in their possession a copy, must respond to the competent authorities.

The above, protected by article 328 of the Penal Code, about the illicit exploitation of renewable resources which states:
