Cerro Pintao is one of the richest ecosystems Biotic biodiversity in the department of La Guajira, that is where born major rivers supplying source of the municipalities that comprise its jurisdiction within the Villanueva River are, rio Marquesote, Urumita river, Arroyo el Quemao, Cañaverales river and the river Capuchino.
This important ecosystem includes the municipalities of La Jagua del Pilar, El Molino, Urumita and Villanueva and has heights up to more than 3.000 meters above sea level.
