The Regional Autonomous Corporations of La Guajira (Corpoguajira) and that of Santander (CAS), they manage to articulate actions to save the life of a pink flamingo (Phonicopterus ruber), who had lost his way on his migratory route on the banks of the Chicamocha River (Captain, Santander).

The animal was recovered by members of the Environmental Police of that department, delivered to the CAS and later transferred to La Guajira, to be available to the Corporation.

En este caso, the entity, immediately activated the safety protocols for the care of the species. The process began with a medical-veterinary assessment by specialists at the Hogar de Paso (Riohacha), for referral to the Agro-Environmental and Ecological Center (Jerez river).

The medical evaluation indicated that the animal weighed 1.8 kilos, presented a nutritional imbalance product of the stress that caused him to find himself without the rest of the herd.

The species is under a strict recovery process, with a specific diet; and will be living with other flamingos that are in a state of rehabilitation.

At Present, Corpoguajira has two foster homes (Riohacha and Fonseca), where the species that have been recovered in captivity, seized or voluntarily surrendered, are valued and transferred (later), to the Rehabilitation Center. So far from 2017, the Center has 361 species in state of recovery, to later be released into their natural habitat.
