Due to increased rainfall, alert is declared in La Guajira

Rainfall will increase during the week of 12 the 18 December 2011, given the presence of a bad weather system to the west of the Colombian Caribbean.

The Early Warning System (SAT), made up of Corpoguajira and the Colombian Red Cross, (seccional Guajira) issues an alert regarding increased rainfall throughout the departmental territory and the Caribbean.

Due to the above, a call is made to the emergency authorities in the department, because models show that there will be an increase in rainfall, which are forecast during the week of 12 the 18 de Diciembre de 2011, given the presence of a bad weather system to the west of the Colombian Caribbean.

The SAT reports that heavy rains with electrical storms could occur in La Guajira, worsening the situation of the current floods of the Ranchería rivers, Tapias, Maria Mina, El Molino, Ancho and Villanueva; that in recent days have left a great impact on the peninsula.

It is not ruled out that landslides and avalanches may occur again in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Serranía del Perijá, For this reason, special and permanent surveillance of the rivers must be maintained. (Rancheria, Shrimps, Tapias, Maria Mina, Sherry, Reeds, Width, Palomino, El Molino and Villanueva).

It is recommended to CREPAD, CLOPADS and the community in general take preventive measures to mitigate the emergencies predicted in the region.
