The Attorney General's Office, It is the Entity that represents citizens before the State. It is the highest body of the Public Ministry, also made up of the Ombudsman's Office, the Personery.
Made up of 3.400 servers, The Attorney General's Office has administrative autonomy, financial and budgetary in the terms defined by the Organic Statute of the National Budget. It is its obligation to ensure the correct exercise of the functions entrusted in the Constitution and the Law to public servants and it does so through its three main missionary functions.:
The preventive function
Considered the main responsibility of the Attorney General's Office, which is committed to “preventing rather than punishing.”, monitor the actions of public servants and warn of any fact that may violate current regulations, without this implying co-administration or interference in the management of state entities.
The intervention function
In its capacity as procedural subject, the Attorney General's Office intervenes before the Contentious Administrative jurisdictions, Constitutional and before the different instances of criminal jurisdictions, military prison, civil, environmental and agricultural, family, labor, before the Superior Council of the Judiciary and the administrative and police authorities. Its power of intervention is not optional but imperative and is developed selectively when the Attorney General of the Nation considers it necessary and becomes important whenever it is developed in defense of fundamental rights and guarantees..
The disciplinary function
The Attorney General's Office is in charge of initiating, carry out and fail investigations that are carried out due to disciplinary offenses against public servants and against individuals who exercise public functions or manage state money, in accordance with the provisions of the Single Disciplinary Code or Law 734 of 2002.
