El sábado 26 July 2014, Corpoguajira recibirá el resultado de los trabajos realizados por la unión temporal Residuos Sólidos y el Consorcio Residuos Perijá, with the purpose of contributing to the proper management of the waste generated in San Juan del Cesar and Villanueva, respectively.

Among the achievements, It is important to highlight the elimination of all the satellite dumps in the two municipalities and the production of organic fertilizer, which is delivered to peasants and farmers in the area, to use it in their crops and to improve their crops in a natural and sustainable way.

Inhabitants of 30 neighborhoods of San Juan del Cesar and Villanueva, who were trained in comprehensive solid waste management, from its generation to its final disposition. Additionally, training sessions were held on recycling of usable material, seeking with this to extend the useful life of the regional sanitary landfill in the south of La Guajira.
