Prosperity for the rural area of Maicao

Within the framework of the Corpoguajira Closer campaign, officials of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira in alliance with the mayor of Maicao and the company of advisors, They went to communities in the rural area of Maicao to monitor two projects that benefit Wayuu indigenous people.

During the tour, the rehabilitation of sustainable systems for water supply and strengthening food security was monitored through crops with drip irrigation that benefit 16 Wayuu indigenous communities in the municipality of Maicao, department of la guajira.

Through the implementation of deep wells, mills and farms we seek to improve the living conditions of the Wayuu indigenous people through projects that allow the implementation of a sustainable potable water system that guarantees the permanent water supply to the inhabitants of the communities in the rural area of Maicao.

We reduce the pressure on the dry forest of La Guajira

Likewise, ecological stoves were officially delivered where training was provided to the benefited families., about its correct use.

The stoves are made of vitrified brick, wrought iron and stainless steel. We also have a fireplace, four hotplates, an oven, a container for heating water, a ventilation channel for wood burning and an airtight compartment for ash storage.

The implementation of this tool allows the recovery of forests due to the low use of firewood, protection channels, smoke removal and time savings when preparing food, contributing to the environment and also improving the quality of life of the beneficiaries, providing a smoke-free environment with better hygiene conditions.
