With the purpose of establishing the administration and regulation of each one of the different areas of the Ranchería river basin, and generate programs, conservation projects and actions, preservation, restoration and uses that guarantee its sustainable development in ecological matters, economic and social, will take place on days 28 and 29 July 2011, the workshop “Zoning adjustments for the Ranchería River basin”.

Officials from the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira will attend the event (Corpoguajira) and Conservation International Colombia who have been working on the structuring of the Management and Planning Plan for this basin.. (POMCA).

Through several phases of diagnosis and prospective analysis, an understanding of the territory of the Ranchería River basin has been achieved., and with the participation of different actors, a scenario was structured that seeks a balance between economic use and conservation of the existing ecosystem goods and services in the Ranchería River.. Through these tasks, the objectives of zoning were framed, so that the concerted vision of the community and the established principles were the reference to advance the cartographic analyzes and establish the regulations of the different areas..

Among the topics to be developed in the workshop are: the presentation by Conservation International Colombia, of the zoning proposal conceived with institutions and communities during the prospective phase of the POMCA; Working groups will be formed to analyze topics such as water resources, strategic ecosystems and protected areas. Finally, a plenary session will be held in which decisions will be made that will allow adjustments to the zoning to be carried out..

“Through this activity we are going to define the destination of use for each space in the Ranchería basin., based on their physical characteristics, biotic and socioeconomic, within the framework of management principles, previously defined by the different actors in order to guarantee their sustainability.”, explained the general director of Corpoguajira, Arcesio Romero Pérez.

The event will start on 28 July from 2:00 pm in the Corpoguajira auditorium.
