By: Maria Angelica Egurrola H.
With an expressed absolute desire for peace, the 3500 attendees at the VII National Meeting of Environment Youth, Territory and Peace, presented to MADS the National Declaration for the Environment and Peace, within the framework of the International Environment Fair (FIMA 2016). In unison the young people reaffirmed their desire: “We propose peace with the territory, with the environment and with the communities developing strategies that promote the sustainability of the territory. And we commit to taking ownership of our territory and participating in decision-making, being observers and generating actions that recognize ethnic diversity, cultural and environmental».
The meeting allowed them to merge in three days 32 departments of the country with delegations of young people who have an environmental conscience, and that they demanded that the national government include the new generation in the decision-making process, recognizing the autonomy of their territories.. The Guajira Youth Network, backed by Corpoguajira, worked hand in hand with all the members of the National Network, in the formulation of proposals in order to promote transformations around climate change, biodiversity and postconflict, main points of the declaration.
The event concluded with the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development; the director of the National Environmental System (HIS), Luis Alberto Giraldo; and the Director of the Alexander Von Humboldt Research Institute, Brigitte Baptiste.
